CRITICAL NEED
Homeless Veterans
Critical need for access to services
Despite a National effort over the past 10 years, there are still 40,000 homeless veterans.
Most vets have special needs and limitations and lack the skills, resources, and services to find a decent home.
OUR SOLUTION
Targeted Solutions
We will obtain support from local officials and from veterans groups serving the area.
Identifying potential sites for delivery of services would include supportive services such as job skills, legal issues and budgeting.
CRITICAL NEED
Blighted Neighborhoods
Reduced property values, tax base once abandoned; attracts drugs/crime.
Cost of code enforcement, eventual demolition. Expands in the area affected.
Loss of rental opportunities for low and moderate income families.
With assistance from local veteran advocates identify veterans living in substandard rental units.
OUR SOLUTION
Requires cooperation from Governing and Zoning/Codes officials; large potential economic benefit, improving rental housing stock values.
Creation/enforcement of Rent Withholding Ordinance; compels repairs and preserves housing stock
Rent remains in escrow until the repairs are completed and inspected.
Protects the rights of tenants to decent, habitable housing without the risk of being evicted.
Priority will be given to veterans living in substandard rental units
